Randell Jones is the author of several history books emphasizing elements of North Carolina history especially in the frontier and Revolutionary War era. Since 2007, he has served as an invited member of the Road Scholar Speakers Bureau of the North Carolina Humanities Council, speaking to groups across North Carolina. He has also spoken in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C. In 2013, he received the national History Award Medal from the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution for his body of work in the last 10 years. He received Kentucky History Awards from the Kentucky Historical Society in 2012 and 2015 and several awards from the North Carolina Society of Historians, including one for his 2016 video, "The American Spirit, 1780" about the Battle of Kings Mountain, available free on YouTube and especially intended for teachers and students. He is a past-president of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association and consulted with the then-Superintendent of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail for 12 years. Randell lives in Winston-Salem.
