FÃ(c)lire Ã"engusso CÃ(c)li De (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781024908817)

FÃ(c)lire Ã"engusso CÃ(c)li DÃ(c), also known as the Martyrology of Ã"engus, is a significant work of Old Irish literature. Compiled around 800 AD by Ã"engus the Culdee, it is a metrical martyrology, listing the feast days of thousands of Christian saints, both Irish and universal. This edition presents the original Old Irish text alongside an English translation, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The FÃ(c)lire is not merely a list; it offers brief, poetic descriptions of each saint, reflecting the religious and cultural landscape of early medieval Ireland. It is a valuable resource for scholars of Celtic history, Irish language, and early Christian studies. This text provides insight into the devotional practices, beliefs, and artistic expressions of the Culdee movement and their profound influence on the spiritual life of the period.
