Gambara (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781162664132)

Gambara is a novel by French author Honore De Balzac. The book tells the story of a struggling composer named Gambara, who is trying to create a masterpiece that will establish his reputation as a great composer. However, his efforts are constantly thwarted by his lack of funds, his own eccentricities, and the interference of others.Gambara is a complex character, with a talent for music that is matched only by his inability to communicate his ideas to others. He is also deeply flawed, with a tendency towards self-destructive behavior and a tendency to alienate those around him. Despite these challenges, Gambara remains determined to create his masterpiece, and the novel explores the lengths to which he will go to achieve his goal. The book is set in mid-19th century Paris, and Balzac uses the city as a backdrop to explore themes of art, creativity, and the struggle for success. Through Gambara's story, Balzac also examines the role of the artist in society, and the difficulties that arise when creative vision clashes with commercial reality.Overall, Gambara is a thought-provoking and engaging novel that offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of music and art in 19th century Paris. Balzac's vivid characters and richly detailed setting make for a compelling read, and the book remains a classic of French literature to this day.But the hour was not unpropitious for the indulgence of some discreditable whim. Earlier, he might have been detected; later, he might find himself cut out. Tempted by a glance which is encouraging without being inviting, to have followed a young and pretty woman for an hour, or perhaps for a day, thinking of her as a divinity and excusing her light conduct by a thousand reasons to her advantage. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
