It took B. J. Meehan a long time to understand the trauma and loss of getting fired. In his path to recovery, he identified seven steps that allowed him to understand what he was going through and why- and how to move forward. He realized how useful it would be for others going through the same experience to benefit from his insight.
His first step: confess. He urges readers to examine the reason they got fired. This isn't to place the blame, but to gain new insight into their abilities and the practices of the company they worked for. Once it is all exposed, Meehan says, the grieving process can begin.
After confessing and grieving, the steps include exploring identity, embracing abilities, seeking peace, designing a new life plan, and helping others through the healing process. Meehan uses his own experiences to help the reader relate. It wasn't easy for him. Like any trauma, the effects of being fired never truly go away, and Meehan continues his struggle every day. Reading this book is like talking to a friend who has been through the same trauma as you. Getting Over Getting Fired outlines a path to acceptance, hope, and peace.
