Getting Over Obstacles (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781915465993)

Getting Over Obstacles by Lennox Carty is a powerful and deeply personal collection of poems that shines a light on the everyday experiences of people living with disabilities. Through honest reflections, vivid imagery, and thoughtful storytelling, the author explores the physical, emotional and social challenges that many disabled people encounter in their daily lives.

Drawing on lived experience and observation, the poems address themes such as accessibility, independence, resilience, and the attitudes society often holds towards disability. From navigating uneven pavements and inaccessible public transport to confronting prejudice and misunderstanding, the collection highlights the obstacles that can make everyday life more difficult for wheelchair users and others with disabilities.

At the same time, Getting Over Obstacles is a book about strength, determination and hope. The poems celebrate perseverance, personal growth, and the importance of inclusion. They remind readers that disability should not define a person's potential, and that a more accessible and understanding society benefits everyone.

What makes this collection particularly striking is the combination of poetry and powerful photographic imagery. The images throughout the book visually document many of the real-world barriers discussed in the poems, reinforcing the message and giving readers a deeper insight into the realities faced by disabled people.

This thought-provoking and inspiring book invites readers to reflect on how communities, institutions and individuals can work together to remove barriers and create a more inclusive world. Getting Over Obstacles will resonate with anyone interested in disability awareness, social justice, and the resilience of the human spirit.
