Born in Wenatchee, Washington, he attended public schools in Olympia, and Everett, Seattle's Lincoln High and the University of Washington. After service in the U.S. Army Fred became an Episcopal priest and served in Montana, Washington State and on the reservation of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Sicangu Lakota Oyate, in South Dakota. Now retired, he splits his time between Spokane and Bellevue, Washington. He and Kris, his wife of 57 years, have four children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
