Goats, Not Sheep: A Collection of Poems (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798249216467)

Gardner Barrier's collection of poems, Goat Not Sheep, uses the metaphor of the climbing goat to explore themes of individualism, resilience, and spiritual growth. While the sheep represents a life of conformity and comfortable safety in the valley, the goat symbolizes a deliberate choice to seek higher ground despite the risks of the ascent. Each poem emphasizes that true perspective and personal strength are forged through solitude, resistance, and the refusal to live by the lowest common denominator. This collection serves as encouragement to embrace the difficult path of discernment over the easy movement of the crowd. Through the image of hooves on stone, Barrier argues that life's challenges are not obstacles to be avoided but essential tools for character formation.
