When speaking of his own death and resurrection, Jesus made reference to Jonah's miraculous rescue. Matthew 12:40 reads, "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Jesus' death and resurrection was God's plan of redemption, rescuing mankind from downing in his own sea of sin.
