xClovis E. McCallister was born in Seminole, OK. He was reared in west Texas oil fields and was graduated from Kermit, TX, High School and Texas A&M University.
He utilized his Journalism education in newspapers from August 1965 until March 1971. He served as general reporter, news desk and agricultural writer for the Midland, TX, Reporter-Telegram; editor of the Sweetwater, TX, Daily Reporter-News; news editor and later agricultural editor for the Abilene, TX, Reporter-News. He joined GTE telephone operations in their San Angelo, TX, four-state headquarters in 1971. During 29 years with the GTE Public Affairs in Texas, he held positions in the San Angelo and Irving headquarters, and in field operations in Brownwood, Texarkana and Garland.
While in San Angelo, he performed freelance outdoor writing for several regional and state publications.
