Preacher, Teacher, Coach, Farmer, Storyteller, Dad and Pop, Dennis (Dink) Martin, "The Story Man", was born and raised in Blount County, Alabama. He is a member of Jacksonville State University Alumni, where he lettered in football, and is a member of the J-Club. While at Jacksonville his friends picked up on the nick name, Dink, which stuck. Dink Martin also holds degrees form Athens State University and a graduate degree from The University of Alabama. Pastor Martin served as a bi-vocational pastor to churches throughout Blount County for twenty-five years. During that time he coached high school football, baseball, track, girl's basketball and softball. Coach Martin retired from coaching in 2002 but continues to teach his beloved American History. As a teacher Mr. Martin was one of five finalists, of over fifteen thousand teachers, to be selected for the 2012-2013 Alabama Teacher Hall of Fame. Dink and his wife Donna live on their farm in north Alabama where they raised their three children, Kristy, Bucky, and Kacy. Dink began storytelling when his three children were young by entertaining them at bedtime and on long road trips. His storytelling which included stories about growing up in the country soon evolved to entertaining church family and school children. It was the school children that tagged him with the name, "The Story Man". The Story Man has shared stories all over the country, from North Carolina to California, from Montana to Texas. The Story Man has opened for Jerry Clower, told stories on the swapping grounds at the National Storytelling Festival, and severed as Master of Ceremonies at Blount County's Meet the Authors Night of the Young Authors' Conference. Dennis "Dink" Martin, The Story Man, takes everyday events and turns them into stories which provoke tears, chills, and shudders - enjoy the adventure!
