Because of Helen's obsessive attachment towards Jake, Dana decides to put some distance between them and turns to her brother's friend, Eric for consolation. Jake sets matters straight with Helen and agrees to stay away from Dana. Because Dana is too much of a distraction, it distorts Jake's ability to center his attention on the case. His lack of focus lands both him and Dana in the killer's hands.
