Some people experience loss once.
I experienced it over and over again.
Before I understood life, I understood grief.
Before I understood healing, I understood survival.
And before I ever learned how to become strong, life forced me to carry pain that most children should never have to experience.
Grief Raised Me is a raw and deeply personal memoir about loss, trauma, survival, motherhood, faith, identity, and rebuilding yourself after life repeatedly breaks you apart.
From losing her father at a young age, to battling anger, emotional outbursts, depression, and feelings of abandonment, Ryanita shares the truth about what grief really looks like behind closed doors. Not the version people talk about publicly-but the silent version. The version that follows you into classrooms, relationships, motherhood, addiction, isolation, and adulthood.
As the losses continued, grief slowly became a part of her identity. It shaped the way she loved, the way she reacted, the way she trusted people, and the way she viewed herself. What started as childhood pain eventually turned into emotional spiraling, substance abuse, hopelessness, and surviving in environments she never imagined for herself.
After the tragic loss of her mother in a devastating house fire, Ryanita found herself completely shattered-questioning God, questioning life, and questioning whether she even wanted to continue living at all.
But somewhere between motherhood, mentoring troubled youth, surviving homelessness and shelters, helping broken children while still healing herself, and learning how to face her pain instead of running from it... something shifted.
She began rebuilding.
Not perfectly.
Not all at once.
But intentionally.
This memoir is not just about grief.
It is about what grief can become when it goes unhealed.
It is about generational pain, emotional survival, and learning how to live without allowing trauma to completely define you.
Most importantly, it is about finding purpose through pain and discovering that healing does not mean forgetting what hurt you-it means learning how to carry it differently.
Grief Raised Me: Before I Understood Life, I Understood Loss is for anyone who has ever felt broken by life, lost themselves in survival mode, or struggled to find peace after pain.
Because sometimes the strongest people are the ones quietly fighting battles nobody else can see.
