Groundwater Geochemistry and Isotopes provides the theoretical understanding and interpretive methods for the use of geochemistry and isotopes in the practice of hydrogeology. This text simplifies the basics of aqueous geochemistry and the complementary use of environmental isotopes, using case studies to illustrate principles. This second edition includes new methods and case studies since the first publication. Accessible to consultants and practitioners as well as undergraduates and graduates, this new edition is supported by a workbook of example problems and test problems with solutions in a separate document for instructors. Additional material in the workbook is included on groundwater sampling, field measurements, testing alkalinity and routine analytical methods.
A Groundwater Geochemistry and Isotopes workbook, including example problems, test questions with solutions and sampling and analysis guide, is freely available to instructors by request from idclark@uottawa.ca and at the website for this textbook at the link: www.routledge.com/9781032405933.
Ian Clark is a professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Ottawa. He completed a bachelor of science in earth sciences and a master of science in hydrogeology at the University of Waterloo, followed by his doctoral degree at the Université de Paris-Sud (Orsay) in isotope hydrogeology and paleoclimatology. Since his earliest work on geothermal systems in western Canada, Dr. Clark's research has focused on the integration of geochemistry and isotopes to address questions on the origin, age, and geochemical history of groundwater and solutes in natural and contaminated settings. He and his colleagues recently established the Advanced Research Complex for geosciences at the University of Ottawa, hosting labs for accelerator mass spectrometry, stable isotopes, noble gases, and geochemistry.
