Next, he went to the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital. At Dr. Howes' urging, he was allowed to operate his own research lab during his surgical internship and residency training. He worked hand in hand with the greats in American medicine and surgery. Independently, he garnered grants, trained lab techs, wrote papers, slept on the cold floor, proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corp and finished with board eligibility in both general and plastic surgery in an unheard of six year period.
