Today's parents and teachers find themselves under extreme pressure to drive their children academically at ever-younger ages. The current educational climate can make us feel as though we're not giving our children "all the advantages" if we don't start academics early on. Using concrete examples, approachable language, and a generous dose of humor, HEY, QUIT PUSHING reveals how, contrary to what current trends and fashions in education are promising us, this push can actually be highly counterproductive, resulting in increased levels of anxiety, self-esteem issues, inaccurate diagnoses of learning disabilities, but not higher academic achievement. If you're a parent or teacher who believes that the notion of pushing academic work onto younger and younger children seems misguided, this book was written for you. If you know a child who seems bright but just cannot "measure up" academically, one whose struggles are mystifying, this book might well illuminate that puzzle.
