The Lake County Genealogical Society, A Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, is dedicated to promoting genealogical research, preserving records and materials of genealogical value, and aiding people in tracing their family lines. In 2014 the Lake County Genealogical Society celebrated 40 years as a Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. The Society began in the 1960's with a small group of people with a common interest in family history. From the beginning, the importance of preserving records and making them available was as important as teaching others to trace their family trees. Their many projects included indexing local records and providing research materials for the history-seeking public. Many of the more recent projects have been placed online. These include the enumeration of all Lake County, Ohio cemetery gravestone inscriptions and the indexing of Lake County births, marriages, deaths, and naturalizations. A school record project is under way. The group continues to support Morley Library in Painesville, Ohio, its home base. The Society offers regular meetings with speakers of interest to genealogists, help to those researching, and a quarterly newsletter, Lake Lines, to share news and "the art and mystery of the trade."
