Beginning in 1907 as Arkansas State Normal School through today's University of Central Arkansas (UCA), this book describes the development of the academic discipline of chemistry from academic and personal perspectives. With humorous and heartwarming storytelling, the character and contributions of two central figures in the history of chemistry at UCA are emphasized: Everett E. Cordrey (1914-1950) and Jerald M. Manion (1965-2014). The influences of major national and international events are addressed, such as World War I, attacks on education during the 1920s, the Great Depression, World War II, changing social norms during the 1960s and 1970s, and an increased activity in and influence of scientific research in recent decades.
