Levi L. Lamborn (1829-1910) is best known for propagating the Scarlet Carnation and for its acceptance as Ohio's state flower. His interests and varied careers include physician, newspaperman, horticulturalist, politician, banker, and real estate developer. He also became Alliance, Ohio's first historian. The Alliance Historical Society was founded for the promotion of historical studies of the City of Alliance, Ohio, and its surrounding areas. Members of the Society collect, preserve, and organize historical materials and work with area schools and community organizations to present historical programs.
