The book is about the disappearance of a British girl from London visiting her relatives in Lahore, Pakistan.

But at a deeper level, the book highlights abuse of child servants, making of a prostitute, a maid's plight as a sex slave and the lifestyle of the super-rich in Pakistan; a country where over 40% of people are below the poverty line. The book also confronts basic issues like the apathy of the police when it comes to investigating crimes not to mention the overbearing influence of the rich and the powerful to either not investigate or to do so with kid gloves. As well as, a commentary on the reputation of Punjab police.
