Marcony Almeida is a Brazilian journalist based in Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Maceió, Alagoas, Almeida was an economics reporter for the Jornal do Commercio, in Recife, Pernambuco. In the United States he is a graduate of International Business and Culture at Northeastern University. He is the co-editor of the bilingual Brazilian Magazine, with distribution in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. He is also a presenter on the radio program Últimas Notícias with Marcony Almeida, on WJDA 1300AM and he is the Director of Organizing at the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA), in Boston. In 2003 Marcony Almeida was awarded New Bostonian of the Year by Mayor Thomas Menino for his work to better the life of the immigrant community in the city. In 2004 he received the Make a Difference award from the Cambridge Health Alliance for his work as a journalist to promoting HIV/AIDS prevention in the Portuguese speaking community. In 2007 the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) awarded Almeida with the Jorge Fidalgo Community Service Award for his journalistic work in benefit of the Portuguese speaking community. And in 2008 he received the Latinos United in Massachusetts Award, from the organization Latinos Unidos en Massachusetts (LUMA) for his extraordinary work in defense of and to better the lives of the Latin community in the state.
