IC-705 Setup & Mastery: The Complete Beginner's Guide to Configuring, Programming, and Operating the Icom IC-705 HF/VHF/UHF All-Mode Transceiver - Fro (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798199472272)

You just spent $1,300 on the most capable portable transceiver ever built-and you're staring at a screen full of menus you don't understand, frequencies that mean nothing yet, and a microphone you're afraid to key because you might break something.
The Icom IC-705 is not a beginner's radio. It is a professional-grade, all-band, all-mode, GPS-enabled, digital-voice, software-defined powerhouse that happens to be small enough to fit in a backpack. That gap between what it can do and what you know how to do? That's where most new owners get stuck. Some stay stuck for months. Others never get past FM repeater chatter.
This book closes that gap with surgical precision.
IC-705 Setup & Mastery is the definitive field manual for operators who refuse to learn by trial and error. Written for the newly licensed Technician, the prepper buying their first serious emergency radio, and the experienced ham finally upgrading to a modern portable rig, this guide walks you from the unboxing tape to your first confident HF contact without the frustration, confusion, or costly mistakes that derail most beginners.
Inside, you will find:

• Zero-to-hero setup that gets your radio configured correctly the first time-firmware, menus, GPS, and display optimization included
• Memory programming decoded-repeater offsets, CTCSS tones, D-STAR linking, and bulk import from repeater directories
• Antenna and power systems explained in plain language: why your SWR matters, when you need a tuner, and how to build a home station that actually performs
• First-contact mastery across FM repeaters, HF SSB, CW, and digital modes-with the etiquette, phonetics, and logging practices that separate operators from tourists
• Troubleshooting protocols for the 20 mistakes every beginner makes, plus systematic diagnostics when nothing seems to work

Every section prioritizes doing over theorizing. Every explanation assumes you have never touched a transceiver before. Every procedure has been tested on the actual radio, not imagined from a manual.
The IC-705 is not a toy. It is a tool that rewards competence with capabilities most hams never experience: worldwide HF contacts from a picnic table, emergency communication when infrastructure collapses, summits activated from mountaintops, and digital networks traversed from a vehicle dashboard.

Buy this book. Power on your radio. Start operating like you know what you're doing-because you will.
