I'm on a Journey to See You, Sam (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781919440446)

'I'm on a Journey to See You, Sam' is a collection of introspective diary entries and letters written by Jack Waddington to his younger brother, Sam, following Sam's sudden death from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The narrative follows Jack's physical and emotional journey from London back to his family home in Hampshire to attend the funeral and support his grieving parents. Through these raw, first-person reflections, Jack explores the profound bond they shared, characterised by a unique "brotherly connection" and shared interests in football, birdwatching, and humour. He candidly discusses the immense guilt he feels regarding a past accident where he broke Sam's leg, while also navigating his own mental health struggles with ADHD and depression. Ultimately, the writing serves as a cathartic tribute, capturing the complex reality of life as a sibling to someone with a terminal disability. Jack uses this "afterlife admin" to process his shattered identity and ensure that his brother's vibrant spirit is never forgotten.
