Cate Sutherland lives in New Zealand and writes Science Fiction stories. Writing has been a passion of hers since she was ten years old. She has written a novel and several short stories and articles. Her short stories are usually funny or at least very light. Much to her amazement (and embarrassment), she wrote a poem about a wooden nose and it was published. Her articles tend to be about abuse and suicide and school principles visiting China and they have been published too. Right now she writing a story about a survivor of gang rape. Although you won't find any of that in her novel. Her novel In The Shadow Of The Hills was written over a ten-year period, very part time. She has written many short stories (not all science fiction) and is working on her next novel. She completed a short course in creative writing at the University of Auckland and in 1999 was short listed in the 'Ripping Good Read' competition, for her story The Gift. Her novella The Holding Force was published by Gateway SF Magazine - both The Holding Force and The Gift will be included in her upcoming short story collection to be published soon.
