In Thy Dark Streets Shineth: A memoir in essays (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798340766427)

Growing up, I heard a lot about God. After all, I went to a fundamentalist church every time the doors were open. The problem was that I never met Jesus. By the time I was coming of age, I had given up believing that God would ever love me, and so I went off into the world of homelessness, gangs, prostitution, and spiritual evil. This essay collection is based on the old hymn "O Little Town of Bethlehem." Often there were songs I had learned that kept me company even in the darkest moments of my life, and this was one of them. Structured in a narrative that starts in hell, goes to purgatory, and ends in heaven, I tell the stories of when the streets and my life were dark, but what happened when I met Jesus and the light shone in the darkness. Just like the song, the essays talk about the hopes and fears of all the years being met in Jesus.
