Michiko's interest in writing for an audience began during her first career as a compositor in the community newspaper industry. She later worked as a freelance writer while completing university studies and moving on to a long career in public health followed by teaching. She has amassed a wide range of writing experience over the years; collaborating on creative writing projects for health promotion, writing articles, advertising and marketing copy for print and radio, and producing dramatic dialogue text and short fiction for students. Michiko is drawn to black comedy and finding the humour in everyday life, which she likes to incorporate in her writing for both adults and children.
