During WWII, the spring/summer of 1942 bore little good news for the Allies. The Japanese Army steamrolled south, poising at the doorstep of Australia. A former US Marine rifleman, he earned degrees in English Literature from the University of California, Davis and Brown University when he returned from Southeast Asia.
