Introduction to Geological Structures (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781787153653)

Basic Concepts of Geological Structures: Provide an overview of fundamental concepts related to geological structures, including the formation and classification of rocks, and the basic principles of geology such as stratigraphy, lithology, and geological time.

Types of Geological Structures: Explore various types of geological structures, including folds, faults, joints, and fractures. Discuss their characteristics, formation processes, and the geological forces that influence their development.

Structural Geology Techniques: Discuss techniques used to study and analyze geological structures, including field mapping, geological cross-sections, stereographic projections, and the use of geophysical methods to investigate subsurface structures.

Deformation and Stress: Examine the concepts of deformation and stress in geological contexts, including how rocks deform under different types of stress (compressional, tensional, and shear) and the resulting structural features (e.g., anticlines, synclines, normal faults, thrust faults).

Geological Structures and Tectonics: Explore the relationship between geological structures and plate tectonics, including the role of plate boundaries, orogeny, rift zones, and the tectonic processes that shape the Earth's crust and lead to the formation of geological structures.

Applications and Implications: Discuss the practical applications and implications of studying geological structures, including their importance in resource exploration (e.g., oil, gas, minerals), natural hazard assessment (e.g., earthquake risks), and understanding geological history and landscape evolution.
