They want to use its alkaloids to create effective treatments for those addicted to opioids and heroin, not because they want to help, but because they will make a killing doing so. They have in a sense, effectively bribed the government to take something that gave hope to thousands and made it into a money making machine, a machine that has always been known for its ruthlessness.
