Israel First: USA's Policy of Saving Israel (1948-April 2026)

By Dr. Naim Tahir Baig

Israel First is a sweeping, meticulously documented examination of the most consequential-and least scrutinized-bilateral relationship in modern diplomacy. Spanning nearly eight decades, from Harry Truman's eleven-minute recognition of the Jewish state in May 1948 through Donald Trump's twenty-point Gaza peace plan in 2026, this book traces how the United States evolved from a cautious, newly minted patron of Israel into the single most powerful guarantor of its survival, its expansion, and its immunity from international accountability.

Drawing on declassified government documents, Congressional Research Service reports, United Nations archives, peer-reviewed scholarship, investigative journalism, and the published memoirs of American and Israeli officials, Dr. Naim Tahir Baig reconstructs the diplomatic, military, financial, and domestic-political architecture that has channeled over $300 billion in cumulative aid to a country smaller than New Jersey-making Israel the largest cumulative recipient of American foreign assistance since World War II. He documents the more than fifty United States vetoes at the Security Council cast to shield Israel from international censure, the transformation of American aid from modest economic loans into the largest bilateral military assistance program in history, and the extraordinary coalition of lobbying organizations, evangelical constituencies, defense contractors, and ideological allies that has sustained this policy through the Cold War, the War on Terror, and into the age of the Gaza catastrophe.

Israel First is neither a polemic nor an apologia. Each chapter is grounded in verifiable events and cited scholarship, organized along a chronological arc that allows readers to observe how precedents established by one administration hardened into obligations inherited by the next. A dedicated thematic chapter dissects the mechanics of the Israel lobby-not as conspiracy, but as a remarkably effective interest-group coalition operating within the norms of American democratic politics. The book's final chapters provide the most comprehensive available account of the Biden-era arms transfers during the 2023-2025 Gaza war and Trump's ambitious but contested second-term intervention, including the deployment of American troops to a Civil-Military Coordination Center in Gaza.

This is a book for anyone who believes that the health of a democracy depends on the questions its citizens are willing to ask-and that the relationship between the world's most powerful nation and one of its most controversial allies deserves the rigorous, unflinching examination that eight decades of deference have too often denied it.
