Through this book a mother calls for mental health professionals to eschew discrimination and now listen to their dual disability patients (and carers) in order to provide the same care as received by those without cognitive disabilities. The book tells the life story of Alex Cameron, naive artist and photographer, who died in 2023. aged 40, after suffering five tortured years in health facilities and under health services in ACT and Victoria, Australia, which failed him miserably. It describes his personal attributes and role as a loved member of a family while afflicted with a de novo mutation affecting nerve development. The book is an attempt to highlight the health and disability care improvements required for others with his disability, so that they do not suffer in the same way and possibly also meet an early death.
