It's not you, it's me: How to break up with implicit bias in education (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798906004093)

What are your triggers? What values guide your decisions? What beliefs have you quietly carried with you through your own life experiences?

Real growth begins when we pause, reflect, and ask ourselves the difficult questions with honesty and humility. By examining our assumptions, we can uncover hidden biases that influence how we respond to student behavior, discipline, and relationships.

This thought-provoking book challenges educators to slow down, quiet the noise, and take an honest look at the beliefs that shape their daily interactions with students, especially those who don't fit traditional expectations. While conversations about equity often center on race, this book also explores how unconscious bias can affect students from low-income backgrounds, those with disabilities, behavioral differences, diverse cultures, or simply those who think, act, or dress differently.

Through engaging reflections, practical strategies, and weekly action steps, readers are encouraged to recognize the invisible influences behind their decisions and replace judgment with empathy, curiosity, and understanding. Rather than offering quick fixes, this book provides a meaningful journey of self-discovery that helps educators create more inclusive, compassionate, and equitable learning environments.

By challenging long-held assumptions and embracing mindful reflection, educators can transform not only their approach to classroom management but also the relationships they build and the opportunities they create for every learner. Sometimes the most important change we can make in education begins by looking inward.
