Jessie Running (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781976741845)

When a reckless act lands troubled teenage runaway Jessie in the crosshairs of both the police and a ruthless drug gang, she's drawn into the heart of a covert operation she barely understands. Haunted by a past she refuses to speak of, Jessie spirals deeper into danger-seemingly beyond saving. But DI Redwall sees something in her that others don't. As he races to uncover the secret that shattered her life, a brutal murder brings Jessie back into focus. Is she a witness, a suspect... or the next victim? Gritty, emotional, and unflinchingly real, Jessie Running is a powerful noir tale of trauma, survival, and the fragile hope of redemption. Jessie doesn't fear death-she's already faced worse. But can anyone bring her back before it's too late?

DI Redwall is determined to save this lost child. Jessie's chances of survival seem slim until she meets an unlikely saviour who offers her the chance to like herself. Jessie's learned to protect herself, and when fate plays a hand, Jessie is back on the road again. This time she has vengeance in her heart, but the odds are stacked against her.

A flawed heroine you can believe in. If you enjoyed following Steig Larsson's Lisbet Salander, you'll be gunning for Jessie.

Five Star Reviews

I received an ARC of this book through Hidden Gems, and it is probably the best I have read. Jessie is a very different protagonist. She is driven, but through much of the book the source of her issues is unknown. The entire story moves through well-described and beautiful scenes as the various people who come into Jessie's life while she is running leave their mark on her. I give this book my highest recommendation.

Fast moving, imaginative, fun to read, thought provoking. One of those books you don't want to put down from the moment you pick it up. I doubt you've read anything quite like it.

Impossible to put down. Genuinely one of the best written books I've read in a long time. You are imagining the settings in your mind as you read. I opened it and read 28 pages just standing there and have found it impossible to put down. A rare book where you want to know what happens to the characters after you have finished it.

A most absorbing and excellent story, brilliant! This heroine is utterly believable and the storyline is breathtaking. One of the best books I have read for quite a while.

The well-developed character and tight, fast-paced plotting is a typical Lewando. Like with every Lewando mystery that I have ever had the pleasure to read, the ending to Jessie Running will blow you away.

OH MY STARS! What a thrilling book. I COULD NOT STOP READING! Jessie Running is filled with non-stop action and twist and turns to keep readers rapidly reading!

A Hard-Boiled Classic! JESSIE RUNNING is hard-boiled thriller showcasing an intelligent and driven heroine and an author who writes with high style. The novel is tailor-made for fans of action, suspense and intrigue.

A must-read book. Chris Lewando has a knack of telling a story you can really get into. The first book I read was Night Shadows, which was sci fi, and now she throws you a cliff hanging spine chilling mystery...WOW this is a must read.
