Just a Sentence or Two: The Autobiography of a Rural Magistrate (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781912882717)

Just a Sentence or Two - The Autobiography of a Rural Magistrate is a detailed, honest and most engaging 'slice of life' of a man most dedicated to a life of service to others. Be that from his days as a teacher and out across to his years as a magistrate, this autobiography will both inform and entertain you as the author narrates his stories - always with a twinkle in his eye. A joy to read - Felicity Davis (Author of Guard a Silver Sixpence and Sins of the Family)

David's memories take us from his boyhood in Scarborough through youthful experiences and then into manhood and the teaching profession. Not content with merely applying his communication and people management skills to help bring forth several generations of young people, many having disadvantaged backgrounds, he joined 'The Bench' as a lay magistrate, seeking to administer local justice within his parish. An enjoyable read. - Peter Marsh

This incredible life story takes you on a journey of the author's life, from childhood, adolescence and adulthood, culminating with retirement from the Magistrates' Court bench after almost half a lifetime's voluntary service. The true stories from the courtroom, many of them surprisingly funny, all give the reader a real feel for what happens in a Magistrates court. For those with experience of Magistrates courts it leads to reminiscing and thinking of other similar occasions they may have experienced. For those with little knowledge of the Magistrates Court it shines a light on what it is really like. The pictures in the book, especially of family and of past times enhance the reading experience. I love the way the book flows and takes you on the journey, almost as if you were there. The detail in the recollection is truly worthy of note and this book is a must read. The author's story shows what can be accomplished and achieved with hard work, dedication and genuine interest in people. - Jill Finch
