Kagami: The Chronicles of Rei Kuroda (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798176171488)

Nine girls were murdered. Forty-one years later, they came back.

Without warning, nine young women appear standing on the surface of Shiomizaki Bay. Dressed in white. Heads bowed. Silent and motionless.

Everyone can see them. Cameras can record them. Instruments can measure them.

But no one can explain them.

Retired detective Masato Shibata can identify them.

In 1985, nine schoolgirls were murdered in Shiomizaki. Their bodies were found, but their killer was never brought to justice. Shibata spent decades haunted by the case-and by the suspicion that the truth had been closer than anyone realized.

Now the dead have returned to the city that failed them.

When Rei Kuroda and Miho Takahashi join Shibata and the police investigation, fragments of a forty-one-year-old mystery begin rising to the surface: forgotten photographs, buried evidence, old lies, and a connection to a man whose life has moved far beyond the events of 1985.

Then the Nine begin to move.

They do not speak.

They don't have to.

Some crimes are buried by time.
Some memories refuse to stay buried.
