Kalabari Dignity: The Historic Style of Cultural Distinction (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9789786842196)

Mindfulness toward dignity is at the heart of Kalabari culture. In Kalabari, dignity is not just a marker of excellence, but also an expression of the drive (prime mover) that abides in all existing beings. Kalabari's deepest thought and colorful culture (aspire to always) exhibit and celebrate the aesthetics, the truth, and good (flourishing) of the prime mover-the fundamental pulse of existence itself, creativity, and civilization. They clothe themselves in the color and form, life and beauty of dignity. However, they do not reduce dignity to the aesthetics of clothing, cultural finery, or pride. They consider cultural finery-that people know them for-as only enacting the vision of the reign of Dignity that should be made real (concrete) in the world. This book carefully describes the complex and sophisticated Kalabari understanding of dignity and offers it for universal appropriation.
