Killifish Care Guide: Aquarium Setup, Breeding, Feeding, and Species Care for Beginners (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798250222976)

Killifish Care Guide is a practical, beginner-friendly handbook for keeping and breeding some of the most colorful freshwater fish in the hobby. Killifish can be surprisingly easy to enjoy once you understand their basic needs--stable water, thoughtful tank setup, the right foods, and a breeding approach that matches the type of killifish you have. This guide helps you get those pieces right without confusion.

Killifish are not "one single fish." They're a wide group with different lifestyles--especially the big divide between annual killifish (often from seasonal pools with eggs that can rest in damp peat) and non-annual killifish (often from more permanent waters, with different spawning habits). Once you understand that difference, their care stops feeling mysterious and starts feeling logical.

Inside you'll learn how to:

• Choose the right killifish--annual vs non-annual basics, temperament, tank size reality, and beginner-friendly species types.

• Set up the aquarium correctly--lid security (jumpers), plants and cover, gentle filtration, and why calm water matters.

• Dial in water parameters--temperature, hardness, pH ranges, and how to prioritize stability over chasing perfect numbers.

• Feed for color and breeding condition--prepared foods vs live/frozen options, simple feeding rhythms, and portion control.

• Breed killifish step-by-step--spawning mops, substrate spawners, egg collection, incubation basics, and hatch timing.

• Raise fry successfully--first foods, growth stages, water quality protection, and how to avoid common fry losses.

• Handle species-specific care--how different groups prefer different setups, and how to adapt without overcomplicating your tank.

• Prevent and respond to illness--quarantine logic, stress reduction, and when medication is appropriate.

This book is written for real aquariums and real schedules. It favors clean routines over complicated gear and helps you build confidence by changing one variable at a time. The goal is a killifish setup that feels stable, enjoyable, and--if you want--breeder-friendly.

If you want vibrant killifish, healthy spawns, and a clear beginner path from first tank to first fry, Killifish Care Guide is your practical companion.
