Kin and Killers (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798233288005)

In the hazy, whiskey-fueled summer of 2000, 33-year-old Titlow was thriving in Chicago's nightlife, a party lifestyle funded by a revolving door of wealthy sugar daddies. But behind the glamorous façade lay a desperate longing: she needed $100,000 for life-altering gender confirmation surgery, and it felt forever out of reach.

A family visit to Tennessee changed everything.

Titlow reconnected with her 60-year-old Aunt Billie, a glamorous kindred spirit who shared her love for drinking and high-stakes gambling. They was an instant bond, and Billie soon invited Titlow to move into the sprawling, multi-million dollar estate she shared with her elderly, alcoholic husband, Donald.

But behind closed doors, the household was in crisis. As Donald's severe alcoholism spiraled, so did Billie's gambling addiction, leaving her with $40,000 in debt and a husband who refused to pay. Trapped and desperate, Billie saw an opportunity to inherit it all.

She offered Titlow a devastating pact: $100,000 for the surgery-in exchange for helping her murder Donald.

Driven by her ultimate dream, Titlow agreed. On a dark night, after a failed attempt at alcohol poisoning, they watched Donald until he passed out, and Billie smothered him with a pillow.

For months, their story of natural alcohol poisoning was ironclad. But the silence that was supposed to last forever was shattered by a single, guilt-ridden confession. A sting operation. A recorded tape.

The aftermath was a brutal twist of legal fate. Both women were charged, but after a fatal error in judgment, Titlow refused a plea deal. Without her testimony, Aunt Billie was acquitted and walked free, inheriting millions.

Meanwhile, the woman who only wanted to become herself was convicted of murder, receiving a twenty-to-forty-year prison sentence.

This is the true, Southern Gothic tale of greed, betrayal, and the lethal price of transformation. It's the story of one body, two women, and the silence that let a killer walk free.
