Having grown up in North Carolina with a biology teacher for a mother and a father who liked to wander the woods on the weekends, Julia's love of the outdoors often fuels both her written and visual work. Julia has been writing poetry, memoir and short stories since her elementary school years. She began to take her visual art seriously only after moving to California. In 2004 she began to create and illustrate picture books. Julia holds a masters degree in theology from Columbia Seminary and a doctoral degree in Social Psychology from the University of Georgia. In addition, she and her husband provide a loving home for several cats.
