Laredo (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798235639546)

In a sun-blasted border town, the monsters don't hide in the dark-they hide in plain sight.

Mercer Sample spent twenty years tracking fugitives for the US Marshals. Today, he's a cynical bounty hunter operating on the unforgiving edges of Laredo, Texas. He survives by reading people and understanding the ruthless mathematics of the border: keep your head down, collect the skip, and never ask questions. But when a routine hunt for a terrified, embezzling cartel accountant goes violently sideways, Mercer steps into a conspiracy that will drench the Texas asphalt in blood.

Cassidy Lane is walking the desolate, neon-lit truck stops of the Interstate 35 corridor with a bottle of whiskey and a loaded hand cannon. She's using herself as bait, desperate to catch the elusive serial killer who butchered her sister.

But Mercer knows the terrifying truth: the "Laredo Killer" isn't a disorganized psychopath. He's a ghost.

His name is Silas-a highly trained special operations veteran working as a cartel "cleaner." Silas is deployed to systematically erase women who inadvertently witness the underworld's multi-million-dollar bulk cash transfers. Worse, the cartel assassin is being fed his targets by the very police detectives sworn to protect the city.

Forced into a fractured, uneasy alliance, the burnt-out bounty hunter and the grief-fueled vigilante must go off the grid to hunt the hunter. Navigating a labyrinth of corrupt cops, three hundred thousand dollars in stolen cartel capital, and a heavily armed corporate assassin who leaves zero loose ends, Mercer and Cassidy must write their own laws. In a town where justice is bought and paid for, it comes down to basic math: kill the other guy first, or end up buried in the South Texas scrub brush.
