A native of Franklin County, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Phillip Andrew Gibbs holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in history and English from East Tennessee State University. He received his Ph.D. in American history from Mississippi State University in 1988. Now retired, he taught American, European, and Georgia history at Middle Georgia State College (now university) from 1987 to 2015.
An avid tennis player, cyclist, and traveler, he is also a professional musician, performing throughout the Southeastern United States with the Georgia Chryslers, a Rock, Pop, and R&B band. He makes his home in Perry, Georgia. This is his fourth book with The History Press.
