Leadership Lemons: Squeezing the Best Out of Bad Leadership (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798306156774)

After years of experiencing, and in many cases, being part of or the main character, of leadership styles that could make a circus look organized, I realized that navigating a toxic workplace is a skill set as valuable as any degree. It's the first step in your journey towards becoming a better leader, one laugh at a time.

If you've ever found yourself in a workplace that feels more like an episode of "The Office" than a professional environment, then congratulations-you've come to the right place. This book is your ultimate guide to identifying, surviving, and eventually thriving in toxic work environments, all while gaining the skills to lead with grace and sanity.
From the micromanaging control freak who monitors your every move like a hawk on a caffeine high, to the people-pleaser leader who couldn't make a decision if their life depended on it, I've seen it all. And I've survived telling the tale. More importantly, I've learned how to spot these toxic traits from a mile away and developed strategies to not just cope but to outsmart and outlast them.

In this book, you'll encounter a parade of problematic personas, each one more colorful then the last. These few are all based on real people I have encountered or was myself, (names have been changed to protect me). There's the "Ghost" leader, who disappears at the first sign of trouble, leaving you to clean up the mess. Then there's the "Dictator," whose management style would make a drill sergeant blush. Let's not forget the "Credit Stealer," who takes your brilliant ideas and presents them as their own, leaving you seething in the shadows. By the time you finish this book, you'll be able to identify these characters with the precision of a seasoned detective.

But identifying toxic leaders is just the beginning. We'll also explore how to work with them without losing your sanity. From learning the fine art of managing up, to mastering the subtle nuances of office politics, you'll gain practical tips and tricks to navigate the minefield of a dysfunctional workplace. And for those brave souls who aspire to change the status quo, we'll delve into strategies for initiating positive change and fostering a healthier work environment.
So buckle up, dear reader, and prepare for a rollercoaster ride through the often absurd and always enlightening world of toxic leadership. Whether you're here to laugh, learn, or simply commiserate with someone who's been there, this book is your ticket to transforming workplace woes into wins. After all, surviving a toxic work environment is no small feat-it's an art form, and by the end of this journey, you'll be a master artist.

However, as you read and contemplate, remember the real exercise is to grow as a leader which takes a large amount of internal truth. Always be asking yourself, "Do I do this and am I this person"?
