After being overwhelmed by the pressures of life, and constantly in survival mode, perseverance, tenacity and resiliency developed something greater in me that I never knew that I had. It became a defense mechanism that protected and shielded me so that I will not succumbed to the destruction that plagued my life. The circumstances and afflictions that I suffered through, introduced other types of emotions that I had to overcome, such as hopelessness, anger, guilt, shame, rejection, and abandonment. The path was extremely difficult, painful, and heartbreaking. It literally nearly destroyed me in the process, but I rose again, time after time, triumphantly, while defying the urge to quit. It revealed my strengths, my weaknesses, as well as my identity. My perception and thought process had to change despite what I saw, or experienced. It was mind over matter!! Thereafter, I decided to live a more meaningful life, turning my pain into purpose. This included creating my own path, doing the things that I love, and exploring what the world has to offer me in the interim.
