Letters to Katie (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025794655)

"Letters to Katie" is a charming and intimate collection of correspondence from the renowned Pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones to Katie Lewis, the young daughter of his close friend Sir George Lewis. Unlike the somber or mythological themes often found in his professional paintings, these letters reveal a playful, imaginative, and deeply affectionate side of the artist. Written over the course of several years, the letters are celebrated for their whimsical drawings and humorous narratives created specifically to delight a child.

This volume offers a rare glimpse into the private life of one of the nineteenth century's most significant artistic figures. Readers will find delightful sketches of the artist himself-often depicted in self-deprecating or comical situations-alongside stories of everyday life transformed through a fantastical lens. "Letters to Katie" serves not only as a heartwarming historical document but also as a testament to the enduring power of friendship and the artist's ability to communicate wonder across generations. It is an essential read for admirers of Victorian art, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and the art of personal correspondence.
