Lights on Penguin Island (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781764770361)

It is the summer holidays in Safety Bay, and Barry Carter has a credibility problem. Lying on his verandah at eleven forty-two on a hot January night, he watches a green light blink twice, pause, and blink twice again from Penguin Island - which has been closed since the last ferry came home at four. Nobody believes him. Barry mistook a wheelie bin named Bruce for a shark. He has no credibility.

But Rose believes him. And Rose recruits Annie, who already has a notebook. The notebook recruits Kath, who can read the tides, and Vic, who can build almost anything from almost nothing. And Old Mossy, who fishes the jetty at all hours and knows things the town has forgotten it knew, once said something Barry has been carrying ever since: one of these nights it won't be a bin.

Thursday Lights on Penguin Island is a summer mystery set on the coast of Western Australia - about watching closely, reporting honestly, and the things that happen when five young people decide that the person on the spot tells what they see, never mind what anyone thinks. It is the first of seven books in the Safety Bay Six series.
