Lord Abide With Me: Finding Christ During Grief, Loss, and the Long Night in the House of Mourning (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798177685106)

What do you do when you still believe in Jesus Christ, but your heart is breaking?

When grief changes everything, you don't need easy answers. You need the Savior to stay.

A hospital room. An empty chair. A diagnosis that changes the future. A prayer that won't come. A grave that still hurts even when you believe in resurrection.

Lord, Abide With Me is a deeply personal, Christ-centered journey through grief, loss, fear, and the long nights when faith can feel painfully thin.

Written from the experience of a father whose teenage daughter was diagnosed with stage four cancer, Scott Hicks doesn't offer a formula for overcoming grief or ask readers to turn sorrow into a tidy lesson. Instead, he turns again and again toward Jesus Christ, the Savior who wept at the tomb, suffered in Gethsemane, walked beside discouraged disciples, and spoke a grieving woman's name on resurrection morning.

This is a book for people who believe, but still hurt.

For the parent sitting beside a hospital bed.
For the spouse facing an empty side of the bed.
For the child who still wants to call a parent.
For the person grieving someone who is still alive.
For the disciple who prays and hears only silence.
For anyone who knows the doctrine of hope but is struggling to feel it.

Through scripture, personal reflection, Latter-day Saint teachings, and the quiet realities of mourning, Lord, Abide With Me explores:

• How Christ meets us in anticipatory grief, illness, and uncertainty
• Why tears, fear, anger, and unanswered questions aren't failures of faith
• What to do when prayer becomes difficult or words disappear
• How the Savior understands grief in both body and spirit
• How temple covenants, the sacrament, and resurrection can offer hope without minimizing loss
• Why remembering someone isn't the same as refusing to heal
• How Jesus Christ can remain present even when heaven feels silent

This isn't a book about getting over grief.

It's about discovering that Jesus Christ is willing to enter the house of mourning and remain there with us.

The grave still wounds. The diagnosis still hurts. The empty room is still empty.

But because Christ lives, sorrow doesn't get the final word.

When the day is far spent and the night feels long, there may be only one prayer left:

Lord, abide with me.
