Luther's Works, Volume 80 (House Postil I) (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9780758628213)

For over 450 years, Luther's "Church Postil" and "House Postil," consisting of his Gospel and Epistle sermons for the church year, have ranked among the most popular of all of his works among pastors and laity. This volume presents sermons on the Gospel from the First Sunday in Advent through Good Friday, generally following the readings as assigned in the lectionary published with Luther's 1526 edition of the New Testament, though with additions for feasts not included there. The extensive introduction to this volume explores the editorial work of Veit Dietrich, his specific efforts related to the publication of the House Postil, and the conflicts that arose after Luther's death in relation to the interims and the competing Rörer/Poach editions of the House Postil.

Thoroughly researched and faithfully translated, the Luther's Works series consists of Martin Luther's Bible commentaries, sermons, prefaces, postils, disputations, letters, theology, and polemics--translated and published in English for the first time.
