Mark: Leader Guide - A Ten-Week Study in the Gospel of Mark for Men's Small Groups (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798997631413)

You said yes to leading a group of men through Mark. This is everything you need to do it.

Most first-time leaders quit because they think they signed up to teach. You didn't. Your job is to ask, to wait, and to protect the conversation - and this guide is built to make that possible for an ordinary man who agreed to host, not for a seminary graduate.

This is a complete guide, not a companion. Every one of the ten sessions contains the full participant material your men are holding - the opening reflection, the passage printed in full, the big idea, all seven discussion questions, the weekly practice, and the closing prayer - with the leader material set alongside it. You will never be flipping between two books while ten men wait.

Every session adds: the four Key Scriptures the night actually turns on; a 90-minute session flow showing where the time goes and where to give ground when you run long; Talking Points for the Leader with the historical and cultural background you need, including what not to say; a leader note on every single question - seventy of them - covering how to ask it, what to expect, and what to do when a man goes quiet or goes too deep; a Pull It Together section on what the night was actually for; and a pastoral note on the hardest ground in that passage - the divorced man in week seven, the unanswered prayer in week three, the shame that surfaces in week nine.

Front matter that does the real work: a word to the leader on what you're walking into; how to run a 90-minute meeting; how to set the table in week one; how formation actually happens in a group of men; and how to spot, name, and hand off to the next leader in your group - because sending a man out to start the next group is the point of the whole enterprise.

At the center of the study is Jesus' opening announcement - not "get saved and coast," but the Kingdom of God is now within reach. Following him is an apprenticeship: a life you learn, not a box you check. Mark is the shortest Gospel and the most honest book in the New Testament about the men who followed Jesus. They compare, they grab for rank, they fall asleep when it matters, and at the end every one of them runs - and he never gives up on a single one.

Resist the pull toward warrior language and try-harder application. Most of the men in your group are already exhausted from performing. If your men leave more honest rather than more determined, the study worked.

Scripture passages are printed in the World English Bible, a modern English translation in the public domain. The companion Participant Guide is sold separately - every man in your group should have his own copy.
