Massimilla Doni (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781169227453)

Massimilla Doni is a novel written by the French author Honore de Balzac. It was first published in 1837 as part of the series ""Scenes from Private Life"". The story is set in Venice, Italy, and revolves around the main character, Count Andrea de Sarno, who falls in love with the beautiful and wealthy Massimilla Doni. The novel explores themes of love, jealousy, and the power of music. Count Andrea is a talented musician who is drawn to Massimilla's love of music and her ability to appreciate it. However, he soon realizes that she is already engaged to another man, the wealthy Venetian nobleman Conte Mariano. Despite this, Count Andrea continues to pursue Massimilla, hoping to win her heart. He becomes increasingly jealous of Conte Mariano, who seems to have everything that he does not. However, as the story unfolds, Count Andrea learns that there is more to Massimilla than he initially thought, and he begins to see her in a new light. Throughout the novel, Balzac explores the power of music to bring people together and to heal emotional wounds. He also delves into the complexities of human relationships, and the ways in which jealousy and envy can cloud our judgment. Overall, Massimilla Doni is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of 19th-century Venice. It is a must-read for fans of Balzac's work, as well as anyone interested in literature, music, and the human condition. This was an untenable position. Cataneo, who only looked for a duchess, thought himself ridiculous as a husband; and, when Massimilla complained of this indifference, he calmly bid her look about her for a cavaliere servente, even offering his services to introduce to her some youths from whom to choose. The Duchess wept; the Duke made his bow. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
