Although born in Charleston, West Virginia, the author spent his early years in Michigan. Educated at New Mexico Highlands University and Eastern Michigan University, he earned a M.A. degree in 1967. He taught in Michigan Public Schools for 41 years and coached nearly one thousand basketball games. After retiring in 2005, his passion for history stimulated an interest in genealogy. Since 2007, his research and enthusiasm for facts has distinguished him as a knowledgeable historian in Virginia. Married in 1961, he had two children and three grandchildren. Mike and his wife, Edie, reside in Glen Allen, Virginia.
