MAX and SHARP: The Complete Story (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798273849686)

Max Thompson, a nervous thirteen-year-old seeking to remain invisible in eighth grade, finds his efforts thwarted by a new, confident group of students. He becomes particularly wary of a boy named Azure, whose calculated demeanor and sweeping black eyes spark Max's instinctive unease. Retreating from this escalating tension, Max is drawn, almost compulsively, to the town's most forbidden landmark: the old Millbury Library, a structure condemned for decades due to flood damage and rumored to be unstable and dangerous. Driven by a profound curiosity, Max trespasses into the decaying silence of the abandoned building, where the air is thick with the scent of mildew and rot, and finds himself confronting not ghosts, but something far more potent.Deep within the dusty ruin, amid shattered glass and the debris of forgotten history, Max discovers a beautiful, injured, feral cat with vibrant orange fur and the deepest blue eyes he had ever seen. In that dangerous place, Max risks everything to save the desperate animal, forging a profound connection based on an immediate, mutual understanding. This rescued cat, whom Max names Sharp, becomes more than a pet; he is an anchor who begins to transform Max from the fearful boy who sought the shadows into someone capable of immense courage. But the cat's extraordinary intelligence and trust are "remarkable", suggesting that the secret Sharp carried out of the abandoned library will lead Max far beyond the hallways of Millbury Middle School
